Bond Set for DUI Suspect in Fatal Highland Park Crash

Carly Rousso, 18, of Highland Park was taken into custody after a bond hearing on Tuesday. Rousso is charged with DUI in connection with a fatal crash on Labor Day that killed a 5-year-old girl by the name of Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento. The judge set bail today at $50,000. Rousso’s family was expected to post bail on Tuesday. Bond conditions include a 7 p.m. curfew and restrictions on driving and alcohol consumption.

Rousse allegedly jumped a curb in her vehicle, striking Modesta Sacramento, 25, and her family walking on the sidewalk. Sacramento’s two sons, 2 and 4, were also injured. Additional charges may reportedly be brought against Rousso after blood and urine analysis is completed.

Following the tragic accident, the Mayor of Highland Park, Nancy Rotering, issued a letter to residents expressing her frustration with the slow moving investigation.

I am very grateful for your work and representation. Although it is difficult for me to truly express my gratitude through e-mail, I hope you can still understand how thankful I am that we were able to dismiss my case on the first court date. I am very pleased with the outcome. Again, thank you very much for your time. Please enjoy the rest of your week. D.K.
