Chicago Man Charged with DUI in Crash with Elderly Pedestrian

Michael Izeta, 26, is charged with felony DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm after allegedly striking a pedestrian in Chicago. Around 7 a.m. on Friday, a Chicago police office was reportedly driving behind Izeta when he drove through a red light at Lawrence and Broadway. The vehicle struck a pedestrian, ex-Marine Wayne Davis, 87, who suffered a brain bleed and was left in critical but stable condition. Izeta allegedly hit a curb a block from the site of the accident. According to court records, the arresting officer observed slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. A BAC test resulted in .215, according to Cook County prosecutors.

Izeta was held on a $350,000 bond on Sunday. According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, his Indiana was already suspended for driving under the influence and he has at least two prior DUI’s on his court record from Indiana. In addition the the above charges, he also faces charges for driving without a license, failure to yield, running a red light, and driving without insurance.
