Lake in the Hills Man Caught Driving Drunk and Texting is Charged with Endangering the Life of a Child

Ruben Rodriguez, 42, of Lake in the Hills, was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, improper lane usage, speeding and using an electronic communication device while driving.

According to police, Rodriguez was speeding and driving recklessly when spotted by an officer on Route 14, the officer also saw Rodriguez texting on a cell phone. After pulling him over, officers approached the vehicle and noticed four children between the ages of 11 and 12 in the back seat.

Rodriguez’s license had been suspended due to a prior DUI. At the time, he was issued a special driving permit which required him to use a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device. However, the vehicle Rodriguez was driving at the time was not equipped with the device.
