What Courtrooms are DUI Cases Assigned to at the Skokie Courthouse?

There are multiple misdemeanor DUI courtrooms within the Skokie Courthouse, primarily on the first floor of the building (Rooms 101, 102, 103 and 104) where these cases are heard Monday through Friday. Suburban felony DUI matters are typically handled in courtrooms on the second floor of this courthouse. Additionally, there are courtrooms on the first floor of the courthouse where Chicago felony DUI cases are assigned.

Aside from DUI cases, the misdemeanor criminal courtrooms in the Second District courthouse in Skokie may also have other offenses mixed in along with traffic-related matters. Domestic violence cases are heard separately.

Which Cities and Villages Have Their DUI Cases Assigned to the Skokie Courthouse?

There are numerous cities and villages that comprise the Second Municipal District, which include Glenview, Northbrook, Skokie, Wilmette, Deerfield, Morton Grove, Niles, Park Ridge, Northfield, Kenilworth, Golf, Lincolnwood, Evanston, Glencoe, Des Plaines and Winnetka. These municipalities make arrests for driving under the influence and the arresting officers are scheduled to appear and/or testify on DUI and other traffic matters on specified dates throughout the calendar year (commonly called key dates).

Who Prosecutes DUI Cases at the Skokie Courthouse?

With the exception of Northbrook and Niles, DUI charges at Skokie courthouse are prosecuted by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, which is led by an elected official, the Cook County State’s Attorney. Northbrook and Niles have their own local prosecutors have been contracted to handle first and second offense DUI cases. DUI is typically only charged as a felony for a third or subsequent offense, although there are exceptions. All felony DUI cases are prosecuted by the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
